Bus Building

Bus Building and Parking Lot

A construction bond is an important investment in the long-term safety, efficiency, and sustainability of Shenandoah School Corporation. This proposed bond project includes the construction of a new bus building and an upgraded transportation parking lot.

  • Project Need

The current transportation site consists of an open gravel lot with buses parked outdoors and no permanent structure to support maintenance or staff needs. As you can see from the picture below, buses are lined up on an unpaved surface without striping, defined parking spaces, or designated traffic flow patterns. There is no enclosed facility for performing routine maintenance, inspections, or repairs, requiring all work to be done off site. Additionally, there is no indoor meeting space for transportation staff, limiting opportunities for collaboration and training.

The gravel surface is uneven and lacks clear organization, and its proximity to our athletic facilities makes the area highly visible to families and visitors attending track and football events.

Finally, the overall appearance does not reflect the pride of our district and highlights the need for a modern, organized, and functional transportation facility.

  • Proposed Project

The bus building will allow us to complete routine bus maintenance on site, improving efficiency and reducing costs, while also providing dedicated meeting space for our bus drivers and transportation staff. The improved parking lot will be designed to accommodate all of our buses and include the ability to plug them in during the winter months, helping protect our equipment and ensure reliable transportation for students. Together, these improvements support safe, dependable service for our students and responsible stewardship of district resources. In the proposed plans below, you can see the basic outline of the building, parking lot, and bus storage canopys.
